ACFL Division 3
We travelled to Moate on Thursday last to take on the home side in Round 7 of the league. Played in ideal conditions both teams served up an entertaining game with the home side emerging victorious on a scoreline of 3:10 to 3:07.
Moate won the toss and played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half. They made the early showing and had two points registered in the opening minutes. Bun were playing well and winning plenty of breaks in the middle. Simon Moorehead made a barraging run forward and when his shot hit the post, Mark Donnelly was on hand to finish low to the net. Moate registered 1-5 without reply before Luke Kiernan found himself in space to fire over on the stroke of half time to leave the score 1:07 to 1:01.
Moate started the second half strongly and stretched their lead to 2:08 to 1:01. Facing an uphill battle, Bun fought very hard to eat into the lead. Two two pointers from Aidan Finnan and a goal from Finian Newman brought them right back into the game. A fine counter attack move from Ronan Scally found Luke Kiernan who ran at the defence and fired over to reduce the deficit to five points.
Another barraging run forward from Scally saw him hit the butt of the post as Bun started to dominate the Moate kickout. Darragh Lyons kicked a five point off his left before Moate scored a third goal to halt the Bun revival. A second goal from Mark Donnelly brought the game back to two points with five minutes to play but Moate would kick the insurance point on the stroke to full time to emerge three point winners 3:10 to 3:07.
Team: Cian Tighe, Conor Newman, Dave Newman, Ronan Scally, Enda Newman, John Kiernan, Shane McGovern, Aidan Finnan, Simon Moorehead, Luke Kiernan, Finian Newman, Gavin Lyons, Ken Conroy, Brian Maguire & Mark Donnelly. Subs: Darragh Lyons for Gavin Lyons, Eoin McGowan for Enda Newman, Gordon Medforth & Jonny Nolan.
