Division 7 vs Delvin
We travelled to Delvin on Tuesday last to take on the home side in Division 7 of the league. It was great to have 18 players available for this mid week game given that we were short a number of players through injury. There was a very difficult wind that we faced in the first half which made playing any sort of attacking football very difficult. The home side made full use of the elements and were ahead by 1:03 to no score at the short whistle. While we faced the strong win, there was disappointment that we did not make more of our chances when they presented themselves.

With high hopes for the second half it was Delvin who made the strong start. Two huge points from distance extended their lead to eight points early in the second period. To their credit, the Bun lads showed remarkable character to dig deep to respond. Luke Kiernan got on the end of a Ken Conroy pass, after Kevin Mitchell had found him with a free, to fire to the top corner of the net to get Bun up and running. Conroy was involved again when he found Mark Donnelly in space to fire over a point.

Bun were really starting to press the Delvin kick out and this was paying dividends. Luke Kiernan won yet another kickout to find Donnelly again to tap over. Delvin responded with another point from a free. Another free flowing move involving Matthew Hope and Enda Newman found Luke Kiernan in space. He took on several men on a mazy run before firing to the top corner again to bring Bun really right back into contention. The finish was exquisite from Kiernan who was a constant threat throughout the match.

Bun created several opportunities to draw level but just couldn’t apply the necessary finish. Then, Ken Conroy kicked a monster free from out on the right to bring the sides level for the first time in the game with eight minutes left. The ageless Brian Maguire then took on his man to curl over a super point from distance and saw Bun hit the front. The Bun defence were resolute throughout the remaining minutes and when Conroy caught a high ball in his own full back line, the danger of an equalising score was averted.

This was a good win for Bun in the circumstances that they found themselves in. They dug in deep and showed great character to come from eight points down. They play St. Joseph’s in the next game in this division in a couple of weeks.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Eoin McGowan, Joe Tormey, Gavin Lyons, Enda Newman, Finian Newman, Johnny Nolan, Matthew Hope, Brian Maguire, Luke Kiernan, Kevin Mitchell, Eoin Clarke, Cian Tighe, Ken Conroy & Darragh McCormack. Subs: Mark Donnelly for McCormack, Darragh Lyons for Mitchell & John Casey.

Footnote: Well done to Darragh McCormack who made his adult team debut in this game. Darragh acquitted himself very well and it is great to have him involved in the team.

Inny Shamrocks U12s
Well done and hard luck to Inny Shamrock U12s who played Miltownpass in glorious sunshine in Cusack Park on Saturday evening. Inny raced out of the blocks and were 1 point to the good at half time on a scoreline of 3 points to 2.

A fortuitous goal after half time swung the game and despite our lads being camped inside their 21 for the last few minutes, the full time whistle came with a scoreline of 4 points to 1.6 in favour of Miltownpass.

Massive thanks to Peter Collins and his team for organising the finals weekend and we look forward to the second half of the season after our best performance so far. Well done players and coaches.
